Nel 1977 fu pronto il modello M26-2 per Hunt e fu sviluppato molto presto fino a raggiungere una convincente competitività. Nonostante Hunt vinse tre GP, si classificò soltanto quinto in Campionato. Con una terza monoposto, nel GP di G.Bretagna corre il debuttante Villeneuve e nel GP d'Italia Giacomelli.
